“Nurses are a special breed. We have chosen a path that is both immensely rewarding and at times, immensely trying. We are away from our families for days and nights, weekends and holidays giving ourselves, caring for our patients. There is a very special bond that is formed between us. We are not just co-workers. We are family,” says —Beckie Seitz, RN and NCF Board Member.
She recalls… “When Leslie called me about NCF, I had just received the devastating news that my dear friend from nursing school who had been fighting a battle with breast cancer, was told by her doctor there was nothing left they could do for her. She had two weeks to live. At 42 years old, her life was going to be over, leaving behind two young boys ages 7 and 10. I believe the opportunity to become involved with NCF was not a coincidence, but more a calling and a beautiful way to honor not only my dear friend, but all of the nurses, my extended family who have passed far too young, leaving behind young children.”
NCF is committed to honoring these nurses and carrying on their legacy by providing their children with financial assistance to pursue their educational goals and dreams. I feel blessed to have been asked to participate in a program that gives back to nurses in such a meaningful way.
